Art of Improvisation residency provides extended intensives with Indian and international teachers, who share different and uniquely individual approaches towards the art of CI and movement improvisation practices. The program includes sessions led by Residency facilitators, laboratories, open space, and regular evening jams organized by the local CI community.

𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻

Art of Improvisation Residency is dedicated to rooting the CI practice in the fundamentals established by the first generation instigators of CI, while at the same time giving space to the imagination of alternate outcomes by engaging in other movement improvisation disciplines.

We strongly acknowledge connections and ground the practice in existing needs and relationships of the Indian community. Simultaneously, we create the space of the Residency as an international, multi-layered space for exchange, learning, practice, and co-creation that is welcoming for all people.

𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗧 𝟭
𝟯-𝟭𝟮𝘁𝗵 𝗡𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿

We will engage in the practice of falling, rolling, inversions, soft acrobatics, and understanding of the physical forces governing the body to prepare for an embodied inquiry of moving in contact with others, within and beyond the frames of Contact Improvisation.


𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗧 𝟮
𝟭𝟱-𝟮𝟱𝘁𝗵 𝗡𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿

We will focus on one of the 7 major energy centers as a lens to build solo and partnering skills that support contact improvisation. We will practice these skills in an environment that honors our physical, emotional and mental boundaries and invites their expansion.

𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗧 𝟯
𝟭-𝟭𝟲𝘁𝗵 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿

We will investigate the movement of trios, quartets, groups, and the entire ensemble to investigate the expansion of collective attention in Contact Improvisation and improvisation scores.


*Part 1 is open to everyone and especially dedicated to people new to Contact Improvisation. To participate in Part 2 and 3 it is essential to participate in Part 1 or to have previous CI experience.

𝟮𝟬𝘁𝗵-𝟮𝟵𝘁𝗵 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿

“Harvest” is an extended space for practice and integration after the Residency in a more open, self-designed format. We invite Residency participants as well as practitioners, friends, colleagues who have experience of dancing Contact Improvisation to join Harvest to jam, experiment, exchange thoughts, and delve into depths of exchange.
